iWetland: A Community Science Platform for Monitoring Wetland Water Levels

نویسندگان

چکیده

iWetland is a community science wetland water level monitoring platform developed by the McMaster Ecohydrology Lab and tested from 2016 to 2019 in wetlands located east of Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada. The goal engage members while collecting data better understand spatiotemporal variability patterns wetlands. We installed 24 stations popular hiking camping areas where visitors can text an online database that automatically collates data. Here, we share our approach for developing its importance all types ecosystems. From through 2019, almost 2,000 individuals recorded more than 2,600 table measurements. successfully collected accurate discuss successes shortcomings with respect collection, engagement, participation. found forming mutually beneficial partnerships groups paired strong outreach presence were key success this platform. Finally, recommend those interested adopting their partner groups, recognize participant contributions, identify accessible sites, host activities.

Comparative analysis of remote sensing water indexes for wetland water body monitoring using Landsat images and the Google Earth Engine Platform0 (A Case study: Meighan Wetland, Iran)

Wetlands are dynamic and complex aquatic ecosystems that play an important role in the survival of many plant and animal species. This study modeled the spatio-temporal changes of the Arak Meighan wetland during 1985–2020 using the multi-temporal Landsat images. In doing so, the applicability of different satellite-derived indexes including NDVI, NDWI, MNDWI, AWEIsh , AWEInsh , and WRI was inve...

monEAU: a platform for water quality monitoring networks.

Continuous monitoring of water quality creates huge amounts of data and therefore requires new concepts to guarantee high data quality and to prevent data graveyards. Monitoring stations commonly used in practice today suffer from insufficient flexibility and a lack of standardization. That is, although a lot of monitoring tasks are comparable and should lead to robust and powerful platforms, m...

Louisiana Wetland Water Level Monitoring Using Retracked TOPEX/POSEIDON Altimetry

Previous studies using satellite radar altimetry to observe inland river and wetland water level changes usually spatially average high-rate (10-Hz for TOPEX, 18-Hz for Envisat) measurements. Here we develop a technique to apply retracking of TOPEX waveforms by optimizing the estimated retracked gate positions using the Offset Center of Gravity retracker. This study, for the first time, utilize...

Potential of ENVISAT Radar Altimetry for Water Level Monitoring in the Pantanal Wetland

Wetlands are important ecosystems playing an essential role for continental water regulation and the hydrologic cycle. Moreover, they are sensitive to climate changes as well as anthropogenic influences, such as land-use or dams. However, the monitoring of these regions is challenging as they are normally located in remote areas without in situ measurement stations. Radar altimetry provides imp...
